Ken hand launches the CropCam from outside the Forward Operating Base ("FOB").
The Unmanned Aircraft is airborne. Smile!
We flew in very gusty conditions, as seen from the flight log. We had programmed in a series of offset ellipses.
The quality of the imagery from the Pentax Optio camera was excellent, an example of which is shown above.
Above: the flight plan. below: the flight log, again showing the gusty conditions we flew in...
Above: no problem spotting the "technical", a truck on which has been mounted a heavy gun...
The "IED" (actually a plastic container) was a bit more tricky from 400 feet above ground level...
The good thing about aerial imagery is that you can easily see into compounds and behind walls.
The target area is shown within the red dotted boundary
Again, the quality of the aerial imagery we had was excellent...
At the "control centre" next to the launch site, the photo interpretation work was intense.
Our congratulations to Dr Julia Richardson (shown above with the R. J. Mitchell Trophy) and her colleagues in Team Stellar. Philippa Forrester, a popular TV presenter, is on the right hand side. |
