Rapid prototyping of Unmanned and  Micro Air Vehicles

  • Technology demonstrators
  • Aerodynamic design
  • Vehicle design & build
  • Flight control design
  • Modelling  and  simulation
  • Hardware in loop testing
  • Flight test and  evaluation
  • Third  party payloads

We are a small R& D consultancy company that develops and supplies products and technologies for airborne systems.  We also offer facilities to evaluate third party products, hardware or software, in flight. Staff are cleared to  high national security levels. We  focus on innovative, affordable and  reliable  solutions.

Rapid prototyping of UAVs and MAVs

We rapidly prototype full scale and sub-scale Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) and Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) of wingspan 0.3m to 2.5m. Our goal is to take new concepts from requirements to flight test in very short timescales. Flight trials are the ultimate means of assessing our vehicles.

Vehicle assessment

Platform capability is assessed, either standalone or in multi-vehicle air combat scenarios, using a range of simulation environments and vehicle models. We  can  evaluate vehicle performance throughout its entire life-cycle.

Autonomy

We are developing approaches  for the autonomous and co-operative deployment of  UAVs and MAVs. Our Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms allow land and air vehicles to respond autonomously as a team in simulated reconnaissance tasks. Advanced flight control algorithms and  AI algorithms are hosted on our miniaturised autopilots and multi-processor clusters. Our MAVs perform autonomous waypoint following and loitering in flight.

Products

We pride ourselves on providing bespoke products

  • Miniaturised Surveillance & Navigation AutoPilot (SNAP)
  • Miniaturised multi-processor computing cluster
  • UAVs & MAVs

We design innovative and bespoke  products  to the highest standards. Our products are  versatile and  affordable.  They are  easy to use and upgrade. Our current product range is driven by the emerging needs of the  UAV and MAV  industry.  It is  equally applicable to land vehicles, sea vehicles and robotics.

Miniaturised Surveillance & Navigation AutoPilot (SNAP)

  • Applicable to air, sea and land  platforms

  • Versatile open architecture

  • High specification autopilot

Miniaturised multi-processor computing cluster

  • Implements Smart Multi-Agents in Real Time (SMART)

  • Load balancing across processors

  • Reconfigurable and robust

  • Wireless communications

  • Linux operating system

UAVs & MAVs

Falcon Aviation

Example of their work: the  84" ARTF Eurobat.

MODEL CONSTRUCTION

Liteply and balsa construction. Fibreglass Engine cowl,  Plenty of room in the fuselage and ready fitted servo mountings allowing easy installation of the servos, RC equipment and engine installation. Model is delivered in two versions: ARTF (complete model covered and decorated in scale colour scheme in covering film)

Balsa covered CNC Cut foam flying surfaces featuring choice of single or 2 piece wings,

Balsa construction  and covered control surfaces. All surfaces and hinges ready fitted

A Superb and much loved design, the Eurobat is suitable as an introduction to  large model flying with its slow flying characteristics and great handling, but crank up the control throws and it is a fully aerobatic plane capable of smoothly executing almost any manoeuvre in the book!

Threads are laid in to the servo tubes to aid installation

Engine  23 - 45cc (prototype flies superbly on a ROTO 35vi and even flies very well on the  ROTO25v, although we have other versions fitted all sorts of engines including Quadra 35s Zenoah 38cc and Zenoah 45cc). 45cc will give unlimited vertical performance! If you prefer Glow engines then a 150+ would be recommended - customer reports are that it goes well on a Moki180 and is ballistic on the Moki210.

Options: Everyone has different ideas and requirements so we have tried to incorporate as many options as possible.  For example:

Wing Joining Options

  • Standard Kit has one piece wing (at 7ft - it will still fit in most cars)
  • Phenolic tubes pre-fitted to accept aircraft grade aluminium wing tube available at £28

CNC Laser Cutting Parts Service

We offer a high quality laser cutting service at a affordable, competitive price bringing you the best in quality kits. We can cut almost any shape in a variety of materials.

How much does it cost? That depends on several factors

  • Time….. to draw up parts in CAD is a time consuming business…and time is money! So if you can supply CAD drawings (see specifications) then it will save a lot of time and ultimately save you money    THE CUTTING ITSELF IS THE QUICKEST AND CHEAPEST PART OF THE OPERATION!
  • Materials….. cost of materials varies –depending on the choice of balsa, ply or even plastics etc thickness …
  • Quantity – once the job is set up it is quite easy (and so relatively cheaper) to repeat the cut and so repeats are much cheaper than the first one.  So 10 sets are much cheaper than one and so on.

How long does it take? Again this depends on many things

For example – a customer has sent us completed “Laser-Ready” drawings by email at 9am, then we have been able to cut them straight away and the parts were sent out the same day! This was because

  • we had the proper “Laser-Ready” drawings to work from,
  • the materials were in stock
  • the machine time had been scheduled for the runIf designing your own formers and or ribs– speak to us first about materials – with laser cutting we can make 3mm ply formers and ribs that are stronger, lighter (and much better looking) than even liteply!

What format should I send drawings in? The less work we have to do on the drawings, the less it will cost you.

  • Drawings should be in AutoCAD .dxf format R12
  • Lines should be “joined poly-lines” – separate lines are cut separately and so may cause errors if not  joined correctly
  • accurate – the laser will cut very accurately (0.02mm) so make sure your drawings are accurate
  • Every little speck is cut – so make sure the drawings are clean of speckles or old lines or duplicates etc.
  • if drawings require alteration or “cleaning up” this time will be chargeable" Paper Plans" can be sent to us by post, we will then re-draw and digitise them and if desired, re-design them for you, ready to be cut.

Any questions please call me for a chat about your requirements on 01282 437777.
