Model helicopter flight simulation

from http://www.rchelicopterweb.com/LearningToFly/LearningToFly.htm

On learning to fly a model helicopter: " use a proper RC Heli flight simulator: Having a proper simulator which can be controlled by your Tx is invaluable. It allows you to get acquainted to controlling a model helicopter and learn the needed reflexes. Note that this helps a lot! However, also note that flying a real helicopter is still very different from flying one on a simulator. Besides the obvious restrictions of simulation there is always the stress factor in real life which is missing in the simulator. In real life it takes a bit longer to repair the heli, and it is a bit more expensive.

I have tried numerous simulators, and I believe that Reflex is the best. It looks great, and the helicopters  fly  very realistically. Not one of the other simulators  get close (except CSM which looks awful). I know that RealFlight is very popular since it looks good, but the helicopters do not fly realistically at all. Note that I have tried many more, but they can't compete with Reflex."

Realistic Float Flying!

Adds another dimension to the RealFlight experience, as many of the aircraft in RealFlight G4 are equipped with floats to allow for thrilling takeoffs and landings from a pond, lake or ocean. And just like with the land-based sites, your model will react to impact with objects floating in the constantly shifting water.

  • Overall graphics have been improved for a more realistic appearance.
  • With G4 the best R/C flight sim gets even better!
  • More Aircraft - Over 60 aircraft to fly
  • More flying sites - Over 30 sites to Explore
  • Now controls all basic software functions — virtually eliminates the need for mouse and keyboard!

Improved Graphics

Overall graphics have been improved for a more realistic appearance.

Water-based Reactive 3D Objects

Just like with the land-based sites, aircraft will react to impact with objects such as buoys or jet skis floating in the constantly shifting water.

Dynamic Slope Soaring

TruFlo Wind Dynamics has been accentuated to recreate the conditions that competition-level sailplane pilots would encounter. One 3D site is designed for hand-launch gliders, another for catching thermals.

Five Training Aids to help you fly better!

  • Heli orientation trainer
  • Helicopter Orientation Trainer     takeoff trainer
  • Aeroplane Takeoff Trainer     landing trainer
  • Airplane Landing Trainer

RealFlight helps you develop your flying skills. Practising on RealFlight is fun and risk-free. You learn how to perform the manoeuvres before trying them with your real R/C model saving you money and building time.

Expanded Virtual Flight Instruction™

VFI offers coaching from expert pilots, along with videos that show the proper stick movements. Study pre-recorded airplane and helicopter manoeuvres aimed at fliers of all skill levels, from acclaimed pilots such as Frank Noll, Jason Shulman, Todd Bennett and John Glezellis.

Turn night time into flight time! Fly any 3D site at night or in the daytime!

With RealFlight G4, you can fly by the neon light of your own aircraft and orient by the lights on the field below. On the 3D Night-time Carnival site, banking around the Starwheel gives you time to marvel at its “starburst” light show before you pass over the House of Horrors on the midway. Challenge your reflexes or test your skills at the night-time version of the 3D Obstacle Course.

Over 5000 square miles of flying fun!

PhotoField™ sites offer incredibly high resolution and razor-sharp details. 3D sites are embedded in over 5,000 square miles of TrueLife Terrain™ — where shadows move, clouds roll by, shiny surfaces reflect the sun and bodies of water shimmer and shift.

Choose from over 20 flying sites!

FlexiFieldTM

Use the FlexiField flying site editor to add buildings, trees, vehicles, boulders and more. See a custom RealFlight trim scheme or flying site on the Internet that you like? You can download it onto RealFlight G4! Hundreds of objects to choose!

Superior wind modelling!

Instead of just one general wind field for the entire simulation, G4 features five wind fields to account for even the smallest detail! As winds collide, the strength and direction vary accordingly, and aeroplanes and gliders will feel the "bump" as they approach the top of the mountain or hill.

Backgrounds that are anything but static!

Generation 3 goes far beyond the 2-dimensional, "billboard" look of other simulators. It's a living, breathing environment — fliers can immerse themselves in the realism! Trees sway in the background; clouds on the horizon follow the path of the prevailing winds; glare increases and subsides in relation to the position of the sun. Background objects even reflect off of the aircraft.

Reactive 3D Objects

You can't fly through 3D objects or even bump into them without knocking them over. It's true action-reaction physics!

Multiplayer Collisions

Flying with friends gets even more realistic — now if you collide, both planes react in real time!

Sensory Environmental Elements™ (SEE)

Some flying sites contain features like tractor exhaust, chimney smoke, or a water fountain. These Sensory Environmental Elements (SEE) enhance your overall flying experience. You'll also see leaves move in the wind and dust clouds form when you crash in dirt. It's all part of the total flying experience created in RealFlight G4!

Ambient Sounds

Like Sensory Environmental Elements, ambient sounds enrich your simulated flights with flying site realism you can see AND hear — for example, mooing cows or the engine noise from a nearby tractor.

AccuModel™ — You have the power to customise your world and everything in it!

With G4 every aspect of the flying sites and aircraft is under your control. It starts with over 60 aircraft, but it doesn't end there. The AccuModel™ aircraft editor lets you change the wingspan, select new rotor blades and much more. You can modify airfoils, convert from glow to electric power and alter the trim scheme — each change is instantly shown on-screen. You make the choice...RealFlight makes it happen.

360° "walk-around" preview option!

After the selected plane appears on screen, it revolves continuously. Using the mouse it can be viewed from any angle. When changing trim schemes, you immediately see the alternate model in the preview box.

Split-screen capability!

G4's split-screen capability takes advantage of the InterLink Plus' Multi-Mode function. Multiple players on the same PC can fly together or conduct personalised training sessions.

Advance flight recording and playback.

You are able to record and play back you own flights. These recordings also make great use of the on-screen transmitter, allowing you to watch stick movements during the recording. And if you have a microphone attached to your computer, record audio at the same time, and RealFlight will automatically synchronise it during playback.

Unparalleled collision detection!

Unlike other simulators that have just a few collision points, Generation 3 utilises a triangle-to-triangle, impulse-based micro detection system that "blankets" the entire aircraft with a network of collision detection points.

Break-apart aircraft!

As is the case in real R/C flying, modellers may shear a wing off of their aircraft if they are too careless. The aircraft continues its flight, while accurately reflecting the lost parts.

MultiCam™

Change viewpoints quickly and easily.

View the action from anywhere you wish. MultiCam enables a Picture-in-Picture view looking at the same plane from different angles, an alternate view of the field, viewing different aircraft altogether, or anything you choose! Resize and position these anywhere you like on the screen. And with a simple click of the mouse you can change the camera angle of any viewpoint, including the main screen.

Heads Up NavGuides™!

The NavGuide display allows you to view flight information right on the screen, including Altitude, Air Speed, Heading, and more. There are dozens of options that can be displayed.
